I fell in love with historical fiction after reading Margaret George's Mary, Queen of Scotland and the Isles when I was a teenager. (You can read my review on Goodreads here.) My love of history, of the past, and of people and places through time even led me to earn a degree in Anthropology/Archaeology.
My favorite historical fiction books deal with ancient Celtic culture, the Middle Ages, and the pre-Christian world in general. A few of my favorite historical fiction writers are: Margaret George, Morgan Llewelyn, and Bernard Cornwell.
