My all-time favorite genre is fantasy, including science fiction.
Fantasy > Science Fiction
Personally, I'm of the opinion that all sci-fi is fantasy, but not all fantasy is sci-fi. A defining element of fantasy is the presence of something that doesn't currently exist in this world, whether that's fairy worlds or time travel. In works of science fiction, that thing is explained by, or exists because of, scientific principles.
Some of my favorite fantasy writers are George R. R. Martin, Ursula K. Le Guin, Terry Pratchett, Patrick Rothfuss, David Eddings, J. K. Rowling, Marion Zimmer Bradley, Neil Gaiman, Terry Brooks, Terry Goodkind ... I could go on and on.
My favorite science fiction writers include Isaac Asimov, Douglas Adams, Orson Scott Card, George Orwell, Kurt Vonnegut, H. G. Wells, and Philip Dick.

Genre: Fantasy
My newest favorite fantasy writer of all time, Patrick Rothfuss's Kingkiller Chronicle series is an instant classic in my opinion. I can't say enough about this book - a glowing, gushing review has been in the works for a long time. I just can't bring myself to do it enough justice.
